Grassley and Roberts: Crop Insurance is the #1 Issue for Farmers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With discussions around the next Farm Bill right around the corner, Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), and Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) are passionately touting crop insurance as an essential risk management tool.<\/p>\n<p>The two Senators recently addressed the issue in an interview with KIOW News Director A. J. Taylor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the Number One issue that farmers talk to (Sen. Grassley) and to myself about\u2026all throughout farm country\u2026all of us know\u2026we have to protect crop insurance\u2014it\u2019s the Number One tool in the risk management toolbox that farmers must have,\u201d said Sen. Roberts. \u201cIt\u2019s a great program and it\u2019s terribly important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Grassley, who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncis.staging.wpengine.com\/senator-grassley-touts-crop-insurance-amid-recent-flooding\/#.WBjjNmQrLx4\">has been outspoken<\/a> about the importance of crop insurance to eastern Iowa in the wake of severe flooding, noted that with crop insurance, which is partially funded by farmers and delivered by the private sector, works for both farmers and taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you have a hurricane, a flood, tornadoes\u2014all the natural disasters you can have\u2014when the federal government comes in\u2026it\u2019s 100% paid by taxpayers.\u00a0 But with crop insurance, the farmers are paying into it, and you are buying ahead and you are trying to manage your risk,\u201d said Sen.
